End of the Month

Gosh darn! Another month has gone bye bye. What? Summer is still trying to hang on. Soon, fall will be here and I can't wait. Well, I will have to but you know what I mean. I love the colors that fall brings. I love the smell of the air, the chill, how crisp it can be. The birdsong in the morning has changed. Seasonal summer birdies have left town and new fall ones have replaced them. Or I'm hearing more song of those birdies who don't leave the neighborhood.

First, I will do my Wrap Up.

  • 4 books read, down by four books from last month
  • 9 business quilts longarmed
  • 1 personal quilt top done for Finish It challenge
  • 1 workshop taken to make a wallet, which is also a gift
  • 7 World of Wendy Lu blog posts
  • 13 Wendy B Quilt blog posts
I didn't do any writing or editing. I didn't take a day trip anywhere. My applique and Sashiko have gone by the wayside. Didn't make anything Halloween. Didn't practice my language. And didn't watch anything on Netflix. Well, that will have to change for next month. I will blame not doing anything on the humidity. Because I can. I guess I will always be working on how to utilize my time better. Because now, the holidays are coming up.

Here are the last two quilts I worked on. One I longarmed and the other is a completed top that will get finished to become a holiday gift.

This black and white one is lap size. Maybe a little bigger. I think this will be my last black and white quilt for awhile. This one is my second and I'm kind of done.

So what do I have in store for next month and the rest of the year? Lots. I'm trying not to scare myself into not doing anything at all but there are two really big events I want to happen in the next couple of years. I really need to work on those things and I've got to get back to being the creative mad woman I know I can be. How can I say I miss making dolls and Halloween things when I don't even attempt to make anything. My creative mojo has disappeared again. Taken a vacay. Is hidden away in the back of some pub. I will drag it kicking and screaming into the new month. I shall surprise myself. Life is ever changing and you've got to roll with the waves. So go out and enjoy this last day of August. Make it special because it won't be repeated.

I'm still in quilt mode which is a good thing but I took a break and attended a workshop called the Necessary Clutch Wallet. It was quite intense but everyone finished their piece. I now have my first Christmas gift done and will start two more. Those I won't be able to show because those people are on my social media.

It has pockets for credit cards, a slot for receipts and dollar bills, a zippered pouch for coins, and a spot for a cell phone.

I also put the hardware on, there are rivets, a strap, and the piece to keep the wallet closed.

I also finally got around to sewing the rest of my Bargello strips together. They are two large pieces that will be cut up hopefully this week. I've got to get this one done by Christmas too. Or at least New Year's.

Trying to keep up with posting on the blogs and get to my Halloween dolls. They're still a bit under dressed. And a few more are waiting to be born. I'm glad I have a couple of more days left in this month.

Hostas. Late summer flowers in my friend's yard. I think they're pretty. Unusual, but pretty. And soon they will go away until the same time next year.

Boy how time flies. Whether you're having fun or not. I keep saying that, only because you have to decide if you want to have fun or not. I've decided to keep working on having fun. Yes, crappy things will always happen. Bills will always be due. Life is too short and you only get one shot. You can be hateful, spiteful, and miserable or you can find your happy. Help someone if you can, be a part of the wonderful solution instead of the problem. And if that's too daunting, work on you. I'm working on me. There are things I can't change. I can't make it rain out west where all the fires are happening. I wish I could, but I can't. And that's okay. I can send prayers and blessing to those wonderful men and women out there working hard to contain those fires.

One more week of this month. A few days ago, I wrote two letters to two different friends. Yep, I still hand write letters. I love it. I makes my friends happy when they get a handwritten letter from me in the mail instead of bills or junk mail. And it's a wonderful feeling to get mail from them. Especially after a rough day. News from someone who cares and thinks about me is great.

I did manage to straighten up my computer area and some of my sewing room. Already it's back to being messy again. That's okay. Shows that I'm working on things. I'm still working on my Bargello quilt and I've signed up for a workshop that will take place this Friday. I have lots of prep work to do.
The week is still young.

Be cool peeps!

I took the pants back and got a smaller pair. Maybe these will fit. I longarmed my first t-shirt quilt today and it did me in. It turned out quite nicely. I'm quite proud of myself but I'm so spent. All I wanted to do was have a beer and cry. I was that tired and stressed. But it's done.

I thought I would be able to do something else but nope, I think I'm just going to chill out. No use messing something up because I'm so tired. There's always tomorrow.  Yeah. Dinner, a beer, and read.

Oh Dear!

I've been planning to do a post here for the past week. Then things would happen, errands, pay bills, deliver and pick up quilts. I'm grateful my longarm service if finally getting busy. I'm still working on getting other things into my schedule. Reworking business things so that it will flow better. And trying to deal with the heat and humidity of late summer. Here are a few more quilts I've longarmed.

I have a quilt on the frame now that I will get to directly. I will finish sewing the rest of the strips for my Bargello piece today too.

I haven't sketched anything lately but my sketchbook is open and ready. The day is still young. I finally had a chance to go to the store and buy a pair of stretch jeans. When I tried them on, they fit perfectly. Got home and washed them and they didn't shrink. They were so big. Washed them a second time and am dreading putting them on. How does that happen? I thought when you washed things, they shrank. I'm afraid I will have to take them back and get a smaller size. This is why I don't like to go shopping. Oh well.

On the way to the shop this morning, I saw leaves on a tree that had started to change. Fall is close but still far enough away. Still working the catch up game. I'm okay with that because the business is getting better. I will be back.

Too Fast!

This month is going by too fast! In a way, I'm glad because Fall is coming. And I love Fall. Cool temps, pumpkin spice everything, turning leaves, everything. The past week and a half has been wrought with running errands, delivering and picking up quilts, being on the longarm, ordering supplies and dealing with the heat and humidity. Not a good combination and on top of that, I haven't been sleeping well at all. So I was uber tired. I got in bed early last night (not as early as I had hoped) and slept in a wee bit. So I'm really working to get back to creating and I got a baby quilt done today.

I have a quilt workshop on Saturday and will be prepping for that. I've got lots of fabric to cut out. 20 different fabrics and I need to cut 3- 1 1/2" by 32" strips of each fabric. It's Thursday, right? So I cut 10 today and 10 tomorrow. I'm also working still on a quilt top for my mom, started my next Sashiko kit all the while my Halloween dollies are glaring at me. I'm hoping next week I won't have to do so much running around.

I really miss making dolls and other Halloween type things. I have got to get back to that. I've kind of come to the conclusion that I may not have any wonderful yay moments but will have to be okay with the little moments that happen everyday. I like working on the longarm, making quilts, and will get back to the other creative things that I do.

It's the International Lefthander's Day and Fall is coming.

Done With Summer

Last week was not good. I didn't get anything done even though I had lots to do. I had my list. A list for the rest of the month, for the week, for the day. Nothing. It's been 90+ in temperature and very humid. Even in air conditioning, I just didn't want to move. So now I'm still behind. I will have to put the pedal to the metal the rest of the week and month. I still feel like crawling under a rock until fall gets here but then it will be too late for Halloween and Christmas. So, here we go.

My mom is still working on her own quilts. She likes doing the piecing and sometimes just doesn't know what to do when done. She sent me some blocks she put together and I chose the ones that went well with each other. I will stitch them together, put in some sashing, borders and stick it on the longarm.

I also bought fabric for my mom's Mother's Day, Birthday, Christmas, and New Year's gift. These will go into a Bargello pattern. We'll see how it turns out. The workshop is this Saturday.

This I Just...

Too funny. Life is funny. I told myself that I would blog more. And here it is five days into a new month and I'm behind on some things. Didn't sleep well last night, so I'm dragging a bit right now. Even after two cups of coffee. I did receive another quilt this morning, I started a list for the rest of August, figured out a thread order for Wendy B Quilts, invoiced a quilt, straightened up my desk area which is part of the kitchen island. When I see things online that I like, I write down the address for future reference. At first, I just wrote the address, now I write what made me want to keep the address. All on little bits of scrap paper. Now everything is in its place in a notebook. Bought more of those on Monday. I still have a stack of things to go through but it's looking better. And I just got a new quilt catalog that I can't look through just yet. It's at the bottom of today's list.

Here's the quilt I finished yesterday. There are more pics at

For today, and half of it is almost over. Or is it? I will work on a quilt for me using a technique I learned earlier this year. I will stuff a doll body because the rest of its parts wants to be put together. I still have some dolls that need clothes. No point in them streaking on me.  Not doing well on my sketch challenge, I still have time. And my garden isn't doing well either. A bit disappointed and will have to do some research for next year. I am getting tomatoes but my cabbages aren't doing great because of those horrid cabbage moths, butterflies, whatever the heck they are that's eating my stuff. So, I better get going.

Still February

Working hard to get back in the groove of blogging. It's a way to get my feelings, ideas, and dreams out of my head and into the world. ...
