New Sketches

I've been doing some more sketches. Getting a new project started. I'm to a point where I need to look for some fabric and then make more detailed renderings.

I have a small design commission and will be working on that this week. And I've started thinking about Halloween again. For me. I've been invited to a Halloween party and want to go dressed up. It was between Elizabethan or Medieval and I think I'll do the Medieval because there's not as much fabric.

Make myself and Elf Queen. That's the ticket. Unless I come up with something else.

The Next Big Project

I know, I know. Starting another project before the first 85 are complete. Ha! That's not how this lady rolls. Actually, I started this project some time ago and it never went anywhere. I have always loved playing with dolls. Making clothes for them, writing stories for them. And then I turned thirteen and my mother thought I was too old to continue to play with them. That kind of hurt. I let it go and pursued other things. But guess what?

It's come back full circle. Now I just don't have baby doll, Barbie, and others I can't remember to dress and play with. They have dolls called Blythe and the Bentley of the wonderful dolls are BJDs or ball jointed dolls. I used to work in the theater too. Making costumes for others to wear. Watching them enjoy the limelight in one of my creations. Now, I can still enjoy the limelight of new costume creations. Only this time, the dolls don't talk back or jump if you stick them with a pin. And they're a lot smaller.

Until I get my own doll, a friend has allowed me to use her little one to get started with. He's an elf and I will start off with some elf/faerie/sprite outfits. I watched The Santa Clause yesterday and did some very rough and preliminary sketches. The movie is really cute and I remember when it first came out, how I fell in love with the elves. So, here are my first sketches. Thank goodness for the pause button.

These are in another sketchbook that needs to be filled. Maybe that will happen soon too. Have a good day.

My Halls Have Been Decked

Here I am in my penguin hat. I've discovered that a lot of creative thinking can come about with it on my head.

My friends Maya and Amanda came over to bring some holiday cheer. Whether I wanted it or not, they were going to decorate my place.

I had bought some skellie garland after Halloween. I had no idea I could incorporate it into Christmas.

The ghost and monster are bells. Isn't that great? I love it.

Maya made the wreath out of real greenery. I have to remember to spritz with water. When I do, it smells wonderful. Just like being outside in a fir forest.

My first gift by my little tree. Can't wait to open that.

This, I really love. A candelabra with a spider, web, and gold bow. This is so awesome!

Amanda putting up balls around the curtains. It was great.  I didn't have to do anything. Those two were like little holiday elves.

Skellies in wire ribbon kilts. Love it!

Skellies in a row.

Ha, ha!!! Reindeer skellie farts.

Another view of the Halloween/Christmas garland.

Pretty balls.

They even wrapped my bathroom door. It's great having friends who think of you at special times during the year and they want you to feel special. Thanks guys! Love ya much.

Cassa

Here is Cassa. In a previous post, she was 'No Name' because I just didn't have one for her. But now that she's done, I've blessed her with the name Cassa the Elf Seer.
Many moons ago I carved. I took a workshop where I designed her, she was cut out on a band-saw and then carved. She didn't come out like my drawing but I liked her enough to have kept her. I've carried her around for four years and she's finally done, with a marble for her 'seer ball'.

I knew I wanted her to be a red head and her gown was to be green. I was thinking at first a dark, forest green but then went for a more olive color. I think it works. She's happy and so am I.

The dark spot by her shoulder is wood grain.

I remember when I was carving her, she almost lost her pony tail. She is just the right size for 3/4" scale. Right in between Barbie/GI Joe size (11 1/2"- 12") and dollhouse size (1"=1'). I really wanted to get to doing some dollhouse size pieces but with the older eyes, it may not be possible. Then I discovered 3/4" size and may go with that.

A grown female would be 8", like Cassa, and a male would be 9". She will make a great to scale model.

No Name

A couple of moons ago, I use to do wood carving. I designed this little miss and she got stuck in the "Land of Finish Me". I pulled her out after having rearranged my closets and decided to change her fate. Will I ever get back to wood carving? I don't have a clue but I can finish her. She needs to be painted and will have a marble in her hand, a crystal ball of sorts. I think I had some elf maiden in mind.

I wanted her in an emerald green dress with gold and red belt. She was also going to be a red head. If anyone one wants to try naming her, please be my guest.

I watched the opening Olympic ceremonies and really enjoyed them. My boss said that she felt as if she was invited in. I agree, that's Canada for you. It was like being in their home. I wish all the athletes the best of luck. #12 on my bucket list is to attend an Olympic opening ceremony.

My art reception was last night too. A lot of people showed up which was great. The food was really good and I had a great time. I also had a few inquiries about Koji. I am ready to make the next Koji Bear. After dinner tonight, thar will be skulls to deal with. See ya.

Whoa!

Okay, wow, geesh!  This year, this crazy year is going by so fast. A lot of stuff have been happening and I'm treading water. I'm h...
