Sci-Fi Piece

This little piece was commissioned for a sci-fi author. I didn't get her name or the name of the book but the author is Elizabeth Bear. I only got the pic of a cover that wasn't used and I don't know the story. But this little lady does have a huge metal arm.

She kind of reminds me of Hellboy but cuter.

She is made out of Paper Clay, wire armature, and cloth.

Here is her wrapped body. This is my first finished air dry clay piece. I've started many and have a nice selection of heads. I don't know if I like it or not. Need more practice but I'm quite pleased with the way she turned out.

She's got a cute face to go along with that deadly arm. I like her pose. It's a 'don't mess with me' pose. I will most definitely try this medium again. Then I can know for certain if I like it or not.

Hey Wendy! That's a cool chick:)I can't wait to see a story line for her. Elizabeth Bear is popular, I see alot of her books at the library...

I think she's incredible! Do you mind me asking Wendy what kind of wire you use as an armature? Is it really thick? I have a witch I started with paper clay and I don't think I went about it right- she is so heavy and I'm not even finished yet! I've walked away from her for awhile because I clearly need to research more on how to sculpt a figure with paperclay :( I'm glad to see you back- how did the show go?

Kim,
I used 19 gauge galvanized steel wire then wrapped with floral tape. I only used the wire itself, normally for bigger pieces I'll double it but she's very small. I know that this size (8-9") is difficult in Paper Clay. I will keep practicing in PC on bigger pieces. I wasn't too happy with her paint job but I'll have to keep working on that too.

The show went well and looking for more in 2011.

Whoa!
